About the Gold Coast

The Queensland Gold Coast in Australia is one of the country's most popular holiday destinations. There are over 30 kilometres of golden sand stretching from the eastern Queensland-New South Wales border in the south to Broadbeach, Surfers Paradise and the Stradbroke islands in the north.

Surfers Paradise and Coolangatta are the two main central business districts on the Gold Coast. They are approximately 25 kms/30 minute drive apart. Coolangatta is located at the southern end of the Gold Coast on the border between Queensland and New South Wales. Gold Coast Airport is about five minutes from Coolangatta and 25 minutes from Surfers Paradise.

About an hour's drive west of Surfers Paradise are the Gold Coast's Hinterland mountains which include world heritage listed national parks and reserves where visitors can enjoy wonderful views, local restaurants and picnic spots, shopping, bush walking, bird watching, swimming in natural rock pools, and take 4WD day tours. Lamington National Park, Australia's largest preserved stand of subtropical rainforest, offers more than 160 km of graded walking tracks. About 23 million years ago an ancient volcano formed Lamington, Springbrook, Border Ranges, Nightcap and Mount Warning National Parks which are spread across an area of some 7,000 square kilometres throughout the hinterland.
