Abstract
This paper showcases a best practice strategy for responding to domestic violence, based on developing and improving relationships between the police and domestic violence services in the Logan Police District, Qld. The Fax-Back Project is an initiative of the Logan River Valley Integrated Community Response to Domestic Violence Group and involves three major service partners: the Queensland Police Service in the Logan District, the Working Against Violence Support Service, and Youth and Family Services. This integrated response by police and domestic violence services provides aggrieved and respondent persons with immediate referral to local domestic violence services for the purpose of increased safety of women and children; holding the respondent accountable for their behaviour; and reducing the incidence of domestic violence generally and decreasing the number of repeat calls for service. This paper describes the background to and phases of the Fax-Back Project, and summarises recommendations from an external evaluation of Phase One.
