Abstract

Improvement to the provision of community based orders must involve significant community consultation. There are specific areas with regard to drink driving/ traffic offences, gender based programs, and addressing victim's issues that need to be taken into account.

It must be recognised that the effectiveness of corrections programs is in part determined by the response of offenders to the criminal justice system. For this reason, the role of community based sentencing systems is central to maximising the rehabilitative capacity of community corrections programs.
