Property Crime
Property crime is perhaps one of the most common crimes in Australia. It relates to the damage or destruction of homes, businesses and land as well as theft of vehicles and household burglary. The AIC has a long history in researching property crime and in particular the incidence and causes of arson, and the link between property crime and drugs and alcohol. Graffiti costs the community around $200 million a year in removal and prevention strategies. There are many preventative measures people can take – the AIC website has useful links to practical prevention guides to burglar proof homes, tackle car theft and provide information to mitigate graffiti crime among others.
