Alcohol and drug related violence
The harm and high economic cost associated alcohol-related violence presents major challenges to all levels of government. In Australia around half of all homicides are alcohol-related. One in four Australians surveyed were found to be victims of alcohol-related verbal abuse. Today the impact of alcohol consumption, particularly among young people, is of growing concern. AIC research has identified key issues relating to alcohol-related violence and has advised on approaches to curb this behaviour.
