Fraud and corporate crime
Serious fraud in Australia is both widespread and costly. The act of using dishonest means to gain an unjust advantage over another takes many forms including cheque and credit card fraud, fraudulent trade practices, social security fraud, forgery, counterfeiting and bribery. It is believed to be one of the most under-reported offences in Australia, with fewer than 50 per cent of incidents being reported to police or other authorities. AIC research on various aspects of corporate crime, such as money laundering, consumer fraud, scams, gambling related fraud and fraud against the Commonwealth is available on this website.
