ISOC competition

The Australian Institute of Criminology ran a competition offering five students free attendance at the International Serious and Organised Crime (ISOC) Conference in Melbourne on 18-19 October.

ISOC will bring senior law enforcement, criminal justice, policy and research practitioners from around the world together to share best practice and knowledge in the fight against transnational organised crime.

As a competition winner, you will receive a free conference registration valued at $1,599 which provides full entry to all conference events. You will have the opportunity to meet and hear from some of the world's leading experts and gain invaluable insight into this complex area of crime and justice.

Full terms and conditions

  1. Instructions on how to enter form part of the conditions of entry.
  2. Entry is open to students aged 18 years and over who:
    a. are currently enrolled at an Australian tertiary education institution
    b. are studying Criminology or a related discipline
  3. Entry is via email.
    a. Entrants must go to the Australian Institute of Criminology (AIC) website (www.aic.gov.au) and download the entry form.
    b. Entrants must email the completed entry form as an attachment to aic.events@aic.gov.au with 'ISOC Competition' as the subject line of the email.
  4. Incomplete or incorrectly filled in entry forms will not be accepted.
  5. Your entry must include an answer (no more than 100 words) to the following question:
    For your chance to attend, tell us in 100 words or less—Which topic you would like to hear discussed at the ISOC conference, and why?
  6. Opening date for entries is Friday, 11 June 2010 and closing date is the last email received by the AIC at 5pm on 27 August 2010.
  7. All entries will be read and the most original and interesting responses will win.
  8. Winners will be chosen on 30 August 2010 and will be contacted within seven days via telephone and their names posted on the AIC website, and Facebook sites.
  9. There will be five winners. There are five passes to the 2010 ISOC Conference to be won.
    a. Prize does not include travel, accommodation or meal expenses (apart from meals provided in the conference registration).
    b. Total prize value is $7,995, comprising five prizes of $1,599 each.
  10. The prize cannot be transferred, taken separately, or redeemed for cash.
  11. The prize must be taken on 18 and 19 of October 2010. The Conference will be held at the Melbourne Convention Centre, 1 Convention Centre Place, South Wharf, Victoria 3006.
  12. Winners will be automatically registered for attendance at the Conference and a confirmation email sent. Upon arrival at the Conference, winners must confirm their attendance at the registration desk.
  13. If any winner cannot obtain travel and accommodation in time to redeem their prize, that winner will forfeit their prize.
  14. The AIC reserves the right to request winners to provide proof of identity and proof of residency at their nominated address.
  15. The winner accepts the prize at their own risk. The AIC shall not be liable for any loss or injury sustained while enjoying the prize, except for any liability which cannot be excluded by law.
  16. AIC employees and their immediate families are not permitted to enter.
