Remuneration packages circa $65,000 - $95,000

The Australian Institute of Criminology is the Australian Government's independent national research and knowledge centre on crime and justice. The Institute:

The AIC offers challenging and rewarding work for its staff in a highly professional and collaborative environment. Its researchers have diverse qualifications and experience and are able to undertake work both in their specialist and non-specialist fields.

The AIC seeks research analysts to design, implement and report on major research projects. You will demonstrate your excellence in working in close collaboration with a variety of stakeholders and your strong project management skills, which are supported by a relevant graduate or post graduate degree.

Duty statement

  1. Design, participate in, and/or lead major research projects on a variety of criminal justice subjects relevant to the AIC.
  2. Undertake collaborative research projects with multiple (internal and external) stakeholders.
  3. Undertake analysis and interpretation of various forms of research data (i.e. quantitative and qualitative)
  4. Prepare high quality reports for publication, presentations for conferences and other dissemination forums.
  5. Represent the AIC in a range of forums - meetings, conferences and seminars.
  6. Participate in the planning and organisation of AIC conferences and roundtables.
  7. Liaise with project funding agencies and assist with the planning and preparation of budgets and the monitoring of expenditure.
  8. Other duties as required.

Selection criteria

Note: selection criteria should be limited to three pages.

  1. Demonstrated ability to initiate and conduct major research projects using quantitative and qualitative research skills, and to meet project deadlines, with limited supervision.
  2. Excellent oral and written communication skills, specifically an ability to write for a policy and practitioner audience and negotiate with key agencies to obtain access to data.
  3. Demonstrated ability to initiate and conduct consultations, meetings and roundtables with external organisations and stakeholders nationally, and represent the AIC.
  4. Demonstrated ability to analyse and interpret the data for policy purposes.
  5. Ability to prioritise workloads, maintain thorough files and records, be organised and use time efficiently and effectively.
  6. Willingness to undertake a range of duties at all levels consistent with the operations of a small organisation.
  7. Relevant graduate or post graduate degree.

Based in Canberra's inner south, these positions will be offered to dynamic and high calibre individuals.

Shortlist date

Short listing will take place second half of August and applicants who have been selected for an interview will be notified by phone shortly thereafter.

Interviews

Interviews will be held at the Institute's premises, 74 Leichhardt Street, Griffith ACT 2603 in September 2008.
