Violent behaviour: a national snapshot
23 April 1997
A report detailing factors in violent behaviour and aggression within Australian society is being released today by the Director of the Australian Institute of Criminology, Dr Adam Graycar.
The report, Indicators of Aggressive Behaviour, lists the key factors in aggressive behaviour. Among these are
- a history of violent behaviour;
- male;
- a young adult;
- family, school problems;
- substance abuse, especially alcohol;
- mental illness; and
- conducive situations, eg access to guns.
The report, commissioned by the Minister for Health and Family Services, Dr Wooldridge, also includes a broad range of proposed policy responses.
