National police custody survey monitoring program reports
There have been four National Police Custody Surveys, which have been a joint venture between the Australian Institute of Criminology and police services throughout Australia. Data have been collected in 1988, 1992, 1995 and 2002. These reports use records data and information on those in police custody and cover the following variables: age, gender, Indigenous status, date and time when the person was lodged in cells, reason for being lodged in cells, most serious offence, and reason for release from police cells.
Notification of the release of National Police Custody Survey monitoring program reports is available through the Institute's email alerting service.
