Australian violence: contemporary perspectives

Australian Institute of Criminology

The First National Conference on Violence was organised by the Australian Institute of Criminology on behalf of the National Committee on Violence, and was held in Canberra, October 1989. This collection of the conference papers covers topics such as:

  • the incidence and causes of violence;
  • deterrence measures;
  • perceptions of violence on television;
  • public violence;
  • domestic assault;
  • international perspectives;
  • socioeconomic determinants; masculinity; and
  • issues relating to victims of violence.
