Abstract
This article discusses the significant gap between the assessment of the value of adopting new technology and the risk involved. As users take up wireless technology, another range of security threats are imposed. These can be divided into active and passive attacks, and both are described. The current law enforcement priority regarding wireless networks is to encourage government, industry and householders to put security first and to limit the opportunities for the misuse of wireless capacity. The article concludes stating that it is imperative that to combat networked criminal behaviour there must be networks dedicated to crime control.
