Abstract
The authors present statistical tables on the number and values of vehicles stolen by State in Australia 1986 to 1988, and the number of vehicles stolen and value 1878-1988 to highlight the escalating severity of the problem of motor vehicle theft. In this introductory chapter, they explain the situational crime prevention approach they intend to take in the remainder of the monograph, when discussing strategies to reduce such crime.
