Abstract

Vandalism problems on many housing estates stem from poor planning and design, coupled with poor management. The authors discuss three aspects of public housing vandalism: vandalism factors (defensible space, building design, scale, child density, and maintenance); the role of housing authorities, particularly in the United Kingdom; and design tips for vandal proof public housing.
