Abstract

Many measures have been taken to reduce school burglary, vandalism and arson. This chapter highlights the efforts of education departments in New South Wales and Victoria (using electronic surveillance and alarms), New Zealand (a vandalism information clearinghouse and crime prevention through environmental design measures); and Great Britain (an extensive framework for prevention, some of which is reproduced here). A list of design tips for vandal proofing schools is included.
