This chapter examines the demographics of ageing in Australia, covering the numbers, proportions and problems of different ageing groups. It includes information about the categories of aged people based on biological age ranges; the recognition of socioeconomic factors when considering crime prevention strategies for the aged; older women; the rural elderly; the ethnic elderly; Aboriginal aged; the disabled aged; and the frail aged.
