Abstract
The fear among the elderly of being victims of crime is real and pervasive. Crime prevention strategies must be designed to reduce this fear and enhance the quality of life for Australia's elderly. This chapter discusses what constitutes a fear of crime; who fears crime; why the elderly fear crime; confidence building strategies; community building strategies; and crime prevention through environmental design.
