Abstract
Various theories of crime and crime prevention measures are discussed, including: rational choice theory, opportunity reduction, crime prevention through environmental design and situational crime prevention. The likelihood of displacement of crime if situational prevention measures are used is covered, and steps are recommended for devising an effective crime prevention program.
