Abstract
The National Committee on Violence terms of reference explicitly include the vulnerability to violence of particular groups, and the need for support and assistance for victims of violence. At its first meeting, the Committee decided to make victims of violence its first priority. As this publication suggests, Australian governments have made significant progress in providing support and assistance to victims of violence, whose co-operation is essential to the effective functioning of the criminal justice system. Despite these achievements, however, much remains to be done. This Monograph is intended to encourage further progress.
