Abstract
While alcohol and other drug use needs to be addressed as a behavioural issue, the criminal justice system does not presently do this. The criminal justice system deals only with specific incidents of anti social behaviour, and is therefore an ineffective tool for dealing with patterns of alcohol use. By outlining two case histories, Giddings highlights the need for legal advisers to emphasise the rehabilitative needs of such people and the treatment options available to them when making submissions in court.
