Abstract
Homel presents a brief overview of the use of random breath testing as a deterrent for drinking drivers. He describes recent developments in all Australian states, and indicates the nature of the impact of enforcement in each jurisdiction. A number of alternatives to random breath testing are described, including server intervention programs. A table showing the diverse array of random testing and random stopping programs in Australia, together with the dates the relevant legislation or program was introduced, is included.
