Abstract
Malcolm considers two aspects of alcohol's relationship to crime. In terms of criminal responsibility, evidence of drunkenness is taken into account with the other relevant facts in order to determine whether an accused had the necessary intent when carrying out the act in question. In relation to the sentence imposed for an offence following conviction, Malcolm questions whether it is more in the interest of the community to arrange treatment rather than merely impose imprisonment.
