Abstract

Following the introduction of the integration of HIV positive inmates into mainstream prison populations, Doyle implemented a safety and education package for NSW prison officers, on behalf of the NSW Prison Officers Union. Based on his experience, Doyle discusses: the fears of prison officers; incidents in which officers have been exposed to blood; government apathy; segregation versus integration; prisoners' property; trauma counselling; and AIDS testing.
