Abstract
Oughton suggests the development of crime prevention in New Zealand needs to be seen as a distinct but complementary process within the general criminal justice system. He outlines five major objectives which have been identified for crime prevention initiatives. He warns that in the development of crime prevention strategies, it is important that policy decisions are made on the basis of contributions and views of Maori and non Maori alike.
