Abstract

Those engaged in crime prevention policymaking, planning, implementation and evaluation should be aware that traps and pitfalls do exist (eg media and political posturing on the law and order issue, unintended consequences of crime prevention programs). It is therefore important that they are equipped with: an understanding of the nature of their task in terms of the wider law and order debate; appropriate information; an understanding of the dynamics of the implementation process; and access to sound evaluative techniques and interpretation models.
