Abstract
West explains how the idea of using a problem oriented approach to policing was developed and trialed in South Australia, as part of the South Australian Government's Together Against Crime Strategy. She describes why the Para Hills Subdivision was selected for the trial and provides a brief overview of the techniques used to evaluate the trial. Inspector Al Thomson of the Para Hills Subdivision discusses how problem oriented policing works in practice.
