Abstract
The Law Enforcement Access Network (LEAN) proposal recently announced by the Commonwealth Government involves using technology to utilise a range of data sources for law enforcement and fraud protection purposes. Roberts describes the impetus for LEAN, and discusses the following aspects of the proposed system: functions and approach; security and audit functions; impacts on law enforcement and protection of public revenue; privacy; and current status. Appendix A provides a summary description of the Commonwealth's campaign against fraud.
