Abstract
Australian police forces recognise that the need to be smarter than criminals requires a far greater commitment to technology than was previously the case. Tate observes that the challenge is to improve policing performance by better utilising technology, and that technological advances need to be underpinned and supported by an effective legislative framework. He also comments on Federal Government initiatives in the area (eg the Cash Transaction Reports Agency and the Law Enforcement Access Network).
