Abstract
Sumner discusses the need for a change in the criminal justice system, supplemented by effective crime prevention initiatives. He believes there is pressure to redress the balance away from the welfare model towards the justice or deterrence model for dealing with young offenders. He details the South Australian Crime Prevention Strategy and looks at the current status of juvenile crime in that state.
