Abstract

Tables for selected States and Territories show the number of offences cleared and the rate of offenders per men, women and total population for violent crimes and property crimes in yearly increments from 1991-92 to 1995-96. The data is from police statistics and the basis for clearance differs from state to state: Victoria (alleged offenders processed); Queensland (offenders associated with cleared offences); Western Australia (arrests, summons and cautions); South Australia (offenders recorded); Tasmania (charges laid); Northern Territory (arrests); and Australian Capital Territory (arrest details). Data was not available from New South Wales.
