Abstract
A comparison of statistics on burglary, motor vehicle theft, larceny, homicide and robbery in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, England and Wales, the United States, Germany and Japan for each year from 1972 to 1995 is used to examine the level of crime in Australia in relation to other countries with similar economic and political characteristics. An additional set of tables and graphs records rates of homicide, robbery and motor vehicle theft for selected major cities in Australia, England and Wales, the United States and Germany.
