Abstract

This chapter is primarily composed of statistical tables and graphs. Data presented covers: number and rate of males and females aged 10-17 years in juvenile corrections institutions from 1981 to 1996, for Australia as a whole and each State and Territory; unadjusted and seasonally adjusted rates for the same information, with additional tables and graphs for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander juveniles and non Aboriginal juvenile offenders; levels of overrepresentation of Aborigines and Torres Strait Islanders; and detention status in terms of Aboriginality and percentage of persons not awaiting court hearings, outcome or penalty.
