Abstract
The Australian Institute of Criminology has been compiling statistical data on persons held in juvenile corrective institutions since 1981. This report provides information on both long and short term trends so that relevant changes in the numbers and rates of juvenile incarceration can be assessed. The report discusses findings about trends in juvenile incarceration over the 18 years from 1981 to 1998. It also contains a statistical review of the four quarters of 1998, aimed at satisfying specific informational requirements of juvenile justice authorities.
