Abstract
The Health Insurance Commission makes considerable use of computers in carrying out the claiming and payment operations related to Medicare. This paper examines the nature and extent of current forms of fraud and inappropriate practice in relation to Medicare. Smith discusses whether future technological developments will make matters better or worse.
