Abstract

Data from the Deaths in Custody Monitoring Program is examined to determine Aboriginal custodial mortality since 1980. The paper compares national Aboriginal and non Aboriginal deaths during the 1980s and 1990s, with particular attention to suicide in prison. Data on the manner of Aboriginal deaths in prison is also considered.
