Abstract
Using Prison Census figures, this paper analyses the major features of offences for which people were gaoled in 1988 and 1998. It examines trends in the offence composition of Australian prison populations by age, gender and jurisdiction. The authors note that the offence composition of Australia's prison population has remained stable over the ten year period.
