Abstract
The laws relating to prostitution in each State and Territory in Australia include laws punishing prostitutes, laws punishing prostitution related activities, and laws punishing clients. The authors compare the practice of these laws with legislative intent, providing the perspectives of both police and prostitutes. The paper highlights the need for change and explores four policy options: criminalisation, legalisation, decriminalisation and decriminalisation with controls.
