Abstract
Smith discusses the vulnerabilities of credit cards, debit cards or stored value cards to fraud and deception in terms of alteration and counterfeiting of cards; application and PIN number fraud; misuse of cards, and organised card counterfeiting. He al so outlines fraud prevention strategies which can be taken by the card issuers and cardholders. The Sydney Olympic Games will create increased opportunities for plastic card fraud, and Smith notes ways to guard against such crimes.
