Abstract
A brief overview of some current and emerging technologies for crime control are presented. Grabosky discusses mechanisms for surveillance and detection, blocking devices, and technologies of restraint and incapacitation. Some of the adverse consequenc es of these new systems are identified, and basic principles suggested to ensure that their development and implementation can be accomplished in a manner consistent with human rights in a free society.
