Abstract
Changes need to be made to the Australian criminal justice system to allow for the establishment of a separate court which would deal with drugs and crime. Makkai outlines issues and arguments related to the setting up of such treatment oriented drug courts. She considers how the process works in the United States, what evaluations have shown and what are some of the potential problems in establishing such a program in Australia.
