| Description of the study: | This program aims to deal with the issue of elder abuse by providing 1) preventive strategies to reduce risk of abuse, 2) strategies to identify seniors who are at risk of abuse, 3) intervention and case management programs, 3) carer support, 4) intervention programs for abusers, 5) professional education for service providers, 6) increased community awareness. |
| Description of the outcomes: | The program appears to be having a marked impact on the community. Awareness of elder abuse has increased amongst service providers and sets of protocols on dealing with the problem have been set in place. Five thousand copies of these protocols have been published and distributed. The program has empowered seniors with strategies to protect their well-being. After one year of the perpetrator program there was a follow up which revealed that there were no further episodes of abuse by two thirds of the perpetrators. |
| Evaluation: | The outcomes described above were ascertained via systematic evaluations of impact and process. |
