Description of the study:The Kullarri Patrol is a street patrol designed to have contact with potential offenders in an effort to reduce crimes and violence amongst the local Aboriginal population. Using foot and vehicular patrols, the Kullarri conduct day and night patrols to prevent or reduce a wide range of social problems in the community. Regular patrols are also made of licensed premises in an effort to control and assist intoxicated people. Kullarri Patrol attend domestic disputes whether within private homes or on the streets. They assist women and children escaping domestic violence to access the Refuge for accommodation and help victims obtain medical aid.
Description of the outcomes:Since its commencement Kullarri's operations have extended to working closely with the Bidyadanga Aboriginal Community to assist them in developing a similar project.
