Young people and crime

The history of juvenile justice in Australia has been one of constant change and re-evaluation, reflecting changing community concerns about law and order and the welfare of child offenders. The current system combines both welfare and justice models, balancing principles of accountability and proportionality of sentence, minimising formal intervention and increasing opportunities for restorative justice and reintegration into the community.
