ACT stolen property market
- AIC research project
- Start date: June 2001 (complete)
Description
In June 2001, the Australian Institute of Criminology was commissioned by the ACT Department of Justice and Community Safety to conduct research into the ACT stolen property market, exploring what happens to property after it has been stolen. The research examined the size and value of the recorded stolen goods market; the drivers that lead to the selection of these goods; the distribution of stolen property throughout the market; the value of goods throughout the market; and the recovery of stolen property.
The objective was to assist the ACT Government to develop appropriate crime prevention programs and policies, as well as the ACT Police to target operations regarding the stolen property market.
