Piracy and intellectual property offences
In 2003 Australia ranked 16th in the world for software piracy, with losses totalling $341m. This is quite small compared with some other counties, with the United States ($6,496m), France ($2,311m) and the United Kingdom ($1,601m) far exceeding losses experienced by Australia.
These losses at rates per 100,000 population remain similar. Australia ranks 14th at losses of $1.7m per 100,000 population. Switzerland has the highest rate at losses of $4m per 100,000 of the population.
