Fourth Seminar for Librarians in the Criminal Justice System

Abstract

Automation and resource sharing were the main themes for this seminar. There is a strong move, especially amongst the larger libraries, towards automation of in-house systems, such as the library catalogue and loans, as well as automated links to other libraries and their resources via computer networks. Not all libraries were in a position to automate and there was discussion as to whether libraries should be working towards automation. Though it was suggested that benefits inevitably flow on from automation and perhaps every library should move towards automation as a principle. There was also discussion on information retrieval and the bibliographic data bases which are available for information searching, for example Ausinet and Scale.

Held at the Australian Institute of Criminology on 27-30 March, 1984.
