The AIC has prepared this submission in response to an invitation from the House Select Committee on Cyber Security for Small to Medium Sized Businesses and Organisations. The AIC welcomes the opportunity to contribute to the Inquiry and provide a submission.
The cyber resilience of Australia's small to medium sized businesses is critical to both economic prosperity and national cybersecurity. Cybercrime impacting small to medium businesses is a major focus of the AIC’s research program. This submission summarises evidence from recent AIC research on small to medium business victimisation, reporting and help-seeking, and identifies opportunities to improve cybersecurity awareness, support and prevention efforts for the sector. The information presented in this submission is based on the AIC’s Australian Cybercrime Survey and associated Cybercrime in Australia report series and more focused AIC research papers.
The focus of the AIC submission is on the cyber maturity of Australian small to medium sized businesses and organisations and its implications for cybercrime victimisation and prevention.
